Camp Motorsport is a unique fusion of racing & driving education with life-skills development, and traditional summer camp for an unforgettable experience!
Girls & boys ages 8-16 participate in hands-on driving & racing education, at a real racetrack, and enjoy the fun activities of traditional summer camp, such as fishing, sports, swimming in the pool, and more! Campers attend for ½ week, one-week, or two-week sessions, and live on-site at VIRginia International Raceway,nestled on 1300 acres of rolling hills & woods near Danville Virginia, complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, and outdoor fun in the Virginia countryside! Adult/Child program participants attend for weekend sessions; for girls & boys ages 8-12, with an adult attending.
Driving
The camps program focus is on driving and racing education. Using curriculum designed to help kids become better, safer drivers, kids & teens learn how to be good drivers for their future, regular day-to-day street driving, beyond whatever they might do in racing...
EVERY CAMPER DRIVES EVERY DAY! Instruction focuses on precision, defensive driving, and confidence building, with campers learning to apply good car control techniques, rather than focusing on speed as an indicator of performance. Campers learn safe handling dynamics, such as proper hand position and visual focus, and defensive driving,including exercises in braking, making lane changes, and accident avoidance.
Every camper drives two kinds of vehicles: Mini-Cup cars, for-track driving, and Rally Go-Karts, for off-road driving. Vehicles are set up to ensure camper safety, and feature roll cages, and5-point safety harness.
Safety is our first priority at all times! Campers are required to wear full racing gear, including a full-face helmet, neck restraint,and racing suit when driving. (All required gear is provided.)
Campers get to feel the thrill of full track driving from the front seat of-the Vexton Mark 1 open-wheel Indy-style ride car!
Motorsport Activities
When not behind the wheel, campers participate in motorsport related activities, such as driving a simulator, racing-technology based environmental education, aerodynamics, engineering,exploring careers in the racing industry, driver health & wellness,engineering, etc., as well as tours to various areas of VIRginia International Raceway.
Other Camp Activities
Campers also participate in other general activities as well,including daily swimming! Other activities include various sports,games, fishing, etc., and special events in the evenings!
Lodging & Meals
Campers live in air-conditioned dorms Bathrooms are nearby. Counselors
live with campers for supervision. Meals are served buffet-style from a
kid-tested menu with lots of choices to enjoy!
Staffing
Staff-to-Camper ratio is
1-to-4 for campers 8-12, 1-to-5 for teens.Staff are selected for their
maturity & caring attitude. Staff go through an application,
interview and reference check process,criminal history & sex
offenders background checks and training.
Accredited
Camp Motorsport is accredited by the American Camp Association.
