NASCAR star Ricky Rudd feeds his need for speed at VIR’s Plantation Valley Kart Track.
The Plantation Valley Kart Track, located at VIRginia International Raceway, offers an opportunity to hone your racing skills on a state-of-the-art 5/8-mile, 24-foot-wide, paved karting circuit. Karts are available for rent, or you can bring your own. Almost every successful pro driver in the world today got their start in karting, where the dynamics of driving are amplified, more easily understood and often more readily practiced than in full-sized cars (not to mention more cost effective!)
The track is open to the public five days a week, from Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 am to dusk (Monday-Tuesday also by appointment and nights on major weekends). Arrive and drive in the VIR 9hp karts is available at $25 per 15 minute interval, which includes track time, helmet, etc. Group rates are available as well. In addition, there are open practices where you can put your own kart on the track. Contact the kart track for more details.
VIR's Stratos Karts have 9hp Honda Electric Start motors and are perfect for both novices and experts.
All kart racers must possess a VIR kart license which costs $5.00 for one time use and $25.00 for a season license. Licenses are obtained at the track. Licenses can be revoked by management for any rule infraction made by the license holder. When the track is wet, racing is postponed.
Leagues have been started and will run on the same day as open practice. Call for info.
