Charge of the Headlight Brigade Is VIR's Longest Race in 2009

DANVILLE, VA - Oct. 26, 2009 - The 'Charge of the Headlight Brigade,' a Sports Car Club of America enduro, runs for 13 hours on Halloween. Come watch SCCA road racers try to 'trick' each other as they compete for the 'treat' of being first across the finish line.

Closing the 2009 SCCA season, the 'Headlight Brigade' race is a rousing end to the month of October for racers and track alike. From 9:00 Saturday morning and racing into the night with headlights blazing and brake rotors glowing until 10:00 that evening, the race exercises all a team's skills and tests their endurance as well as the car's.

"No matter how tired we are at the end of this race, it's always been a great experience," commented NC Region's Regional Executive, Glenn Long. Track general manager Josh Lief agrees with that comment: "while everyone is relieved at the end of a grueling race like this, watching teams compete on the track and help each other in the pits shows the sportsmanship and camaraderie that exist in racing."

Not all drivers entered in the race are strictly amateurs: several are driving on 'factory' teams from manufacturers and others have experience in Grand-Am Rolex Series Daytona Prototypes and other professional series. Drivers and teams come from all over, some from as far away as New Mexico and others from the local community, all striving to be first under the checkered flag after thirteen hard hours of racing.

Sports cars compete rain or shine, testing rain tires and windshield wipers as well as slicks and horsepower, so come to VIR and enjoy a great event at America's Motorsport Resort.

Don't forget that you can drive VIR's Full Course for yourself too. On Friday, November 13, VIR hosts the annual Holiday Laps, a fund raiser for the local Salvation Army. For a $25, donors can drive their cars on the historic 3.27 mile course and help the surrounding counties at the same time. Participants also receive a free 8x10 photo of their car on the track from F&S Enterprises as a souvenir of the day.

VIR's 2010 season passes will be available shortly for holiday delivery. Tickets for VIR's spectator events are available on-line at www.virclub.com, just click on "Buy Tickets" at the track's home page. As always at VIR, fans 15 and under get in for free with a paying adult.

As I said in 1957 when I won the race here, I think this is the most interesting and fun race track that's been built in this country. I still feel that way...
