DANVILLE, VA - Oct. 22, 2009 - This weekend, a horde of over 350 sports car racers converges on VIRginia International Raceway for Goblins Go sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America.
Saturday's first race group already lists over 90 cars, ranging from Alfa Romeos, BMWs, Hondas, Mazdas, Porsches and Volkswagens. Adding spice to the group is the SCCA 'Spec Racer Ford' class for cars which are swoopy purpose built races cars reminiscent of the Daytona Prototypes that race in the Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR. The SRF cars provide a great and competitive race whenever they take the track.
Action starts Saturday morning, with track sessions continuing all day. As always, the public is invited to explore the paddock to examine the cars and talk with drivers and crew. As a plus, spectators are welcome at the social party at the Pagoda Restaurant in the paddock.
"SCCA racing is the foundation that VIR was built on in 1957 and it continues to be a cornerstone of our racing to this day," commented track general manager Josh Lief. "The SCCA races are great fun for spectators and competitors alike.
Next Saturday, Oct. 31, brings the final SCCA race of the 2009 season to VIR, with the 13-hour "Charge of the Headlight Brigade" enduro. This race brings entrants from all over the nation, with several Pro drivers scattered among the club racers, all chasing the honor of finishing this grueling test of both machines and crews.
VIR's 2010 season passes will be available shortly for holiday delivery. Tickets for VIR's spectator events are available on-line at www.virclub.com, just click on "Buy Tickets" at the track's home page. As always at VIR, fans 15 and under get in for free with a paying adult.
