Lightning Lap 2009 Strikes VIR |
DANVILLE, VA (January 6, 2010) - For the 4th consecutive year, CAR & DRIVER chose VIRginia International Raceway's Grand West Course for the annual 'Lightning Lap' feature. Why VIR? Here's what CAR & DRIVER had to say:
"The 4.1-mile Grand Course at Virginia International Raceway, near Danville, Virginia, is the best place in the U.S. to evaluate a car’s prowess at the ragged edge of the handling envelope. It features long straightaways, plenty of elevation changes, and all manner of corners, from tight hairpins to long sweepers, many of them dauntingly linked together. It’s where we’ve been running our annual Lightning Lap competition since its inauguration in 2006, and this ultra-challenging terrain is our preferred venue for teasing out a car’s ultimate performance."

|
DANVILLE, VA (November 13, 2009) - Mother Nature did nothing to dampen spirits at VIRginia International Raceway's eighth annual Holiday Laps charity drive as Santa made his first appearance in the area for 2009.

Led by a pace car and tailed by another pace car, speeds are brisk enough to be entertaining but not beyond the abilities of any licensed driver. A donation of $25 allows supporters of the event a 20-minute session in road safe vehicles - from modern sports cars to motorcycles, street rods and vans.

The choice to use VIR for our Lightning Laps program was pretty simple. It is one of the most challenging road racing circuits in America... today's new, computer-designed road courses just don't measure up to what a guy walking through a field could envision back in the day.
