VIR Tenant VIPER Receives International Recognition |
|
DANVILLE, VA (December 14, 2009) - When Professional Motorsport World published their Annual Showcase 2010, an international review of motorsport research and technology, VIR tenant VIPER not only made the short list of ten projects included, but landed in the 'showcase' position.
The Virginia Institute for Performance Engineering and Research (VIPER) is a unique collaborative venture which combines world class talent and state-of-the-art testing and development assets with the research capabilities of both Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University to provide performance engineering services to a broad spectrum of customers. Located in VIR's Virginia Motorsports Technology Park (VMTP), VIPER operates the first 8 Post vehicle dynamics shake rig in North America. This rig has been sized to accommodate a wide range of vehicles including most anything from a golf cart to an up-armored HumVee.
The article appearing in PMW was written by Dr. Chris Boggs, Postdoctoral Researcher at VIPER, and addresses vehicle parameter estimation with an eight-post shaker rig. You can read the full article online at the Professional Motorsports World web site.
VIPER is just one of many successful and innovate motorsport businesses that call VIR home. VIR’s RacePlex™ & VMTP give tenants a unique opportunity to develop products from a track-side location with optimum vehicle testing capabilities including four distinct road courses, a 5/8-mile karting course, and a variety of off-road courses and terrain. II like VIR. It's challenging, it's got some real hard braking points. The Esses are great fun. The whole track is a real, real good track. This place is kept very, very well. You guys obviously have a lot of pride in this place. The grass is cut beautifully clean . . . even the toilets are superb - they're like five star hotel toilet facilities.
